Marlborough Hospital collaborates with UMass Memorial Hospital Medicine Department to provide our patients with hospitalist care in conjunction with each patient's personal physician. The UMass Memorial program is the oldest and largest hospital-run program of this kind in New England. All hospitalists at Marlborough Hospital are specially trained UMass Memorial physicians who work closely with patients and their personal physicians to coordinate and provide inpatient care.

The hospitalist chooses medical tests or evaluations, interprets test results, and works with the patient's physician to make essential decisions about the treatment plan. The hospitalist also is responsible for calling in other physician specialists for medical consults or to discuss further treatment options.

Because hospitalists only care for hospitalized patients and are located in the hospital, they are readily available to see patients and answer questions, as needed.

Our hospitalists and the patient's personal physician work as a team to help the patient through a continuum of care that includes easy admission, a comfortable and compassionate hospital stay, and an individualized aftercare program.
