Blood and Marrow Transplant
|
The UMass Memorial Blood and Marrow Transplant Program is the most comprehensive center for blood marrow transplant services in Central and Western Massachusetts. It offers unrelated, allogeneic and autologous marrow and stem cell transplantation.
UMass Memorial is one of only three sites in New England authorized to perform unrelated bone marrow transplants. Patients have the opportunity to participate in clinical trials that incorporate the latest scientific research. Since the program began in 1994, hundreds of transplants have been performed.
The Blood and Marrow Transplant Program is recognized for providing marrow transplants using bloodless surgery techniques when appropriate. This program is often the appropriate choice for patients whose religious or other beliefs prevent them from having surgical procedures that include blood transfusions.
The program is a member of the National Marrow Donor Program.
The Blood and Marrow Transplant Program is fully accredited by:
- The Joint Commission
- American Association of Blood Banks
- College of American Pathologists
- Foundation for Accreditation of Hematopoietic Cell Therapy
- National Marrow Donor Program (for transplant and collection)
