Skin cancer treatment at UMass Memorial Medical Center includes all currently accepted forms of tumor treatment including wide-excision, Mohs micrographic surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.
Mohs surgery is a technique that removes skin malignancies through an excision made to a depth at which the tissue is microscopically free of cancer. The Mohs technique is used for many types of skin cancers, including high-risk and recurrent tumors. It combines surgical removal of the cancer with immediate microscopic examination of the removed tissue, ensuring that the tumor has been completely removed. This technique has the highest cure rate of all methods of treating skin cancer and saves as much normal tissue as possible.
