At UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, we provide diagnosis and treatment of all types of tumors occurring in the head, neck and the skull base. These areas include the face, nose, sinuses, ears, salivary glands, thyroids, parathyroids, mouth, tongue, mandible, throat and larynx.
Through our treatments, we strive to preserve as much of the patient's tissue and organs as possible. When surgery is required and resections of tumors are quite extensive, patients may have imperfections in the head, face or neck. An integral part of our service is to reconstruct these areas to cosmetically and functionally acceptable levels. In the majority of cases, the reconstruction can be performed at the time of the initial surgery. Various reconstructive methods are utilized including local flaps, pedicled flaps, myocutaneous flaps and free flaps.
