	<p>At UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, our physicians provide expert care for treating brain cancers.</p>
<p>Brain tumors may be either malignant (cancerous) or benign (noncancerous).&nbsp; A primary brain tumor is a group of abnormal cells that originates in the brain. The cause of primary brain tumors is unknown. This is because they are rare, there are many types, and there are many possible risk factors. Tumors may occur at any age. A metastatic brain tumor is brain cancer that has spread from another part of the body. The most common are <a href="MedicalCenterIP.cfm?id=3448">lung cancer</a>, <a href="MedicalCenterIP.cfm?id=1879">breast cancer</a>, <a href="MedicalCenterIP.cfm?id=2922">melanoma</a>, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, certain sarcomas, testicular and germ cell tumors, and a number of others. Some types of cancers only spread to the brain infrequently, such as colon cancer, or very rarely, such as prostate cancer.</p>
<p>Our multidisciplinary Neuro-oncology Clinic is a key component of the Medical Center Brain Tumor Center. Our center is led by a team of specialists including neurosurgeons, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists.</p>
