WORCESTER - UMass Memorial Medical Center continues to rank number one for overall intensive care unit (ICU) quality of care by the VISICU eICU® Quality Consortium as part of a national benchmarking study. The consortium includes 40 health care systems in 28 states, more than 200 hospitals and nearly 300,000 ICU patients per year.
The eICU program offers an added level of care to patients admitted to our ICUs, with specially trained critical care physicians using voice, data and video technology to enhance the patient care provided by the ICU bedside staff. This attention to detail helps identify a potential concern in a patient's condition in the early stages, allowing ICU staff to intervene with prompt treatment before conditions worsen.
UMass Memorial was also noted as being number one in two of the seven quality indicators: low tidal volume and glycemic control.
UMass Memorial has achieved this number one ranking consistently since June of 2007. In addition to this achievement, The Worcester Business Journal recently selected the UMass Memorial eICU Program as a recipient of its Health Care Hero Award in the "advancements in health care" category.
