Patients Give Clinton Hospital High Scores

Satisfaction surveys highlight Clinton Hospital as a state/national leader.

October 10, 2012 (Clinton, MA) – In an age where patient-centered care is taking center stage, Clinton Hospital seems to be doing something very right according to recently released HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) data. The latest report named Clinton Hospital in the number-one position in Massachusetts for patient satisfaction in six out of 10 categories, and the hospital also ranked higher than the national average in all 10 areas measured.

The HCAHPS survey offers a national standard for reporting a patient’s experience during hospitalization. Under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), hospitals are required to send surveys to a random sampling of adult patients who were discharged from a hospital within the last six weeks – focusing on the patient’s satisfaction in a number of areas such as nurse and physician communication, cleanliness and quietness of the hospital environment, patient instructions both in the hospital and after discharge, pain management, responsiveness of staff, and an overall rating of the hospital and likeliness to recommend the hospital.

“Our latest data, which reflects the October 1, 2010 – September 30, 2011 scoring period, shows that patients at Clinton Hospital are extremely satisfied with the care we provide here,” said Sheila Daly, president and CEO of Clinton Hospital. “Our patients’ scores led Clinton Hospital to a number-one ranking in Massachusetts in six out of 10 areas including, nurse and physician communication, staff responsiveness, explaining about medications, cleanliness, and quietness at night.”

Clinton Hospital contracts with Press Ganey, a nationally recognized company, to conduct its surveys. In 2006 the hospital received Press Ganey’s prestigious Summit Award for earning consistently high patient satisfaction scores.

“I’m proud to say that Clinton Hospital is ahead of the curve when it comes to patient satisfaction,” said Ms. Daly. “Patient-centered care is not something that we’re chasing with the advent of health care reform and the Accountable Care Organization (ACO). Patient satisfaction has always been our number-one priority and something our outstanding and compassionate employees consistently do very well – it defines us.”
