Critical Care

Clinton Hospital maintains a four-bed Special Care Unit that stabilizes and manages critically ill patients. The unit emphasizes patient- and family-centered care.

Services provided include:

  • 24-hour diagnostic imaging support
  • Cardiac monitoring
  • Invasive and noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring
  • Surgical care
  • Ventilation

The Special Care Unit is staffed around the clock by a team of physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and technicians dedicated to the care of the patient. Patients in the Special Care Unit can be cared for by a hospitalist, a highly trained physician who specializes in providing inpatient care, or by their own physician. Consultations with Clinton Hospital medical and surgical specialists, as well as those at UMass Memorial Medical Center, are also available.

Visiting hours are flexible, depending on the condition of the patient. Visitors are generally limited to two per patient at any one time.
