Clinton Hospital is designated a Primary Stroke Service Center by the
Massachusetts Department of Public Health, based on the hospital's ability to
rapidly diagnose and treat stroke patients around the clock.
Clinton Hospital also received the American Stroke Association's Get With The
GuidelinesSM-Stroke (GWTG-Stroke) Silver Performance Achievement
Award. The award recognizes Clinton Hospital's commitment and success in
implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients
receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and
recommendations.
Clinton Hospital's stroke team includes UMass Memorial Medical Center
emergency medicine physicians who staff the hospital's Emergency Department full
time. Using an advanced telemedicine videoconferencing system, these
physicians are in direct contact with the highly experienced stroke neurologists
at the Medical Center, enabling them to make a diagnosis and initiate care
quickly for stroke victims.
Studies show that the sooner a diagnosis is made and treatment begun, the
greater the chances for a full recovery from a stroke.
Stroke patients also benefit from rapid access to the hospital's CT
scanner.
If a stroke patient requires the highly specialized services of a major
academic medical center, UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester is just
minutes away via Life Flight air
ambulance.
