LEOMINSTER - HealthAlliance Hospital is pleased to announce
that Bonnie Ryan, MD, has been named chair of emergency medicine and president
of Wachusett Emergency Physicians (WEP). In her new role, Dr. Ryan will be
responsible for providing oversight and leadership for HealthAlliance Hospital's
Emergency Department and the Burbank Urgent Care Center. Dr. Ryan brings with
her more than two decades of dedicated emergency medical experience and
leadership.
In 2005, Dr. Ryan joined the HealthAlliance Hospital medical staff while
serving as an Attending Emergency Physician. Prior to that, she served as
director of quality assurance for UMass Memorial Medical Center - Memorial
Campus and also served as a UMass Life Flight fight physician. Before joining
UMass Memorial, Dr. Ryan was an attending emergency physician at
Newton-Wellesley Hospital after her affiliation with Marlborough Hospital in
Marlborough where she held staff privileges in the Emergency Department.
"I will work enthusiastically with the HealthAlliance Emergency Department
and urgent care teams to improve patient care while minimizing patient wait
times," remarked Dr. Bonnie Ryan. "We are making several innovative changes to
accomplish this goal. I would like to thank Donald Jackel, DO, past Chair of
Emergency Medicine, and Richard Freniere, DO, past President of WEP, for their
hard work and accomplishments over the past several years."
After earning a bachelor of science degree in biology from Union College in
Schenectady, NY, Dr. Ryan began her career as a physician. She earned her
medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School and completed
her emergency medicine residency at the UMass Memorial Medical Center in
Worcester where she served as chief emergency medical resident. Dr. Ryan then
earned her diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners.
Dr. Ryan was actively involved with several medical organizations including
serving as a member of the Diplomats of the American Board of Medicine for 13
years, a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians (FACEP), and a
member of the Massachusetts College of Emergency Physicians.
