The certified nurse midwives at HealthAlliance Hospital emphasize health
promotion, education and disease prevention. Our certified nurse midwives work
in collaboration with the obstetricians and gynecologists at HealthAlliance
Hospital and other specialists who may be involved in patients' care.
Certified nurse midwives not only provide care to women during pregnancy and
birth, but also offer comprehensive gynecologic care to women in all phases of
their lives, including:
- Annual physical examinations, including Pap tests and breast exams
- Education in health promotion and problem prevention
- Family planning counseling: birth control options, including benefits and
risks, and help determining which methods work best for patients' lifestyles
- General health exams
- Initial and ongoing gynecologic care for teenagers
- Management of minor gynecologic problems
- Perimenopausal, menopausal and postmenopausal care
- Preconception health counseling for women considering pregnancy
- Pregnancy testing
- Referrals for mammograms and other screenings as necessary
