Simonds-Sinon Regional Cancer Center

The Simonds-Sinon Regional Cancer Center provides more than 11,500 medical oncology treatments and more than 10,600 radiation therapy treatments a year. Through the collaboration of HealthAlliance Hospital and UMass Memorial Medical Center, the Cancer Center delivers cancer care for the region.

The Simonds-Sinon Regional Cancer Center provides community-based, coordinated care programs for adults with various types of cancer and blood disorders. A multidisciplinary team approach individualizes each patient's plan of care to meet the diverse and changing needs for them and their families.

The Cancer Center facility includes a Radiation Therapy Department with a state-of-the-art linear accelerator, and is staffed by medical oncologists, hematologists and radiation oncologists from HealthAlliance Hospital and UMass Memorial Medical Center.

As a member of UMass Memorial Health Care, HealthAlliance Hospital patients have convenient access to UMass Memorial Cancer Center. This ensures close coordination of a patient's care with a renowned cancer center that provides advanced radiation treatments, bone marrow transplants, PET (positron emission tomography) scanning and the latest clinical trials.

The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons recently granted three-year approval with commendation to the Simonds-Sinon Regional Cancer Center at HealthAlliance Hospital. The extensive accreditation process includes an on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor during which the facility demonstrates their level of compliance with a set of standards that represents the full scope of the cancer program including: cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, research, community outreach, and quality improvement.

Approval by the CoC is given only to those facilities that have voluntarily committed to providing the highest level of quality cancer care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. Only one in four hospital-based cancer programs across the United States received this special approval.

The Simonds-Sinon Regional Cancer Center also received the distinction of achieving the status of Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program, granted by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.
