Several quality goals have been established. These include:
- Improving care for patients with heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and
undergoing certain surgeries
- Performing an organizational quality assessment using an established
evaluation framework, including an assessment of leadership, strategic planning,
customer focus, measurement and analysis, workforce focus, process management
and overall results
- Implementing computerized provider order entry
Several National Patient Safety Goals have been established. These
include:
- Achieving all Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals
- Achieving high rates of compliance with hand washing opportunities
- Implementing projects to address the high priority areas identified in the
2008 employee patient safety climate survey (handoffs and transitions, teamwork
across units, staffing; nonpunitive response to error and organizational
learning/continuous improvement)
- Completing the national Leapfrog Group's annual patient safety survey
- Developing plans to implement 13 of the National Quality Forum's Safe
Practices
- Implementing a pharmacy safety program
- Scheduling at least one medical staff grand rounds devoted to patient safety
issues
