Cancer Pavilion at Marlborough Hospital Capital Campaign Goal of $1.5 Million Announced

Long Time Southborough Resident to Chair Campaign

Marlborough – (November 15, 2011) – A capital campaign to raise $1.5 million in support of the construction of a state-of-the-art Cancer Pavilion at Marlborough Hospital has been announced by Douglas Brown, the hospital’s interim president and CEO. The campaign will be led by former chairman of the Marlborough Hospital Board of Trustees Cornelius “Neil” Ferris who is also a former long time resident of Southborough, MA.

The new facility will be attached to the north side of the existing Marlborough Hospital and is an expansion of the UMass Memorial Health Care Cancer Center of Excellence located in Worcester. The new center will provide expanded cancer services to the local community and has an estimated construction cost of $12.7 million.

"This Cancer Pavilion will provide the opportunity for our patients to receive state-of-the-art high-quality coordinated radiation and medical oncology services in their local community," said  Brown. “We will be combining the skills and knowledge of multidisciplinary teams of cancer specialists from both Marlborough Hospital and from the UMass Memorial Health Care Cancer Center of Excellence at one location which will be so convenient for our patients and their families.”

“Our mission is to have the Cancer Pavilion be a center of treatment, care and hope for our cancer patients and the family members who care for them,” said Ferris. “We will rely on the resources and financial support of many individuals, organizations, businesses and foundations to make our dream of providing great cancer care a reality.”

The Cancer Pavilion will be approximately a 15,000 square-foot addition that will house cancer care services including medical oncology, radiation oncology, patient exam space and a beautiful healing garden.  Groundbreaking for the new facility is scheduled for early 2012 and is scheduled for completion in early 2013.

“I am confident that the wonderful and generous people from our community will come forth and help us build the new Cancer Pavilion at Marlborough Hospital. Those who have been touched by cancer especially understand how valuable a nearby center will be for those dealing with ongoing treatments. We will all band together to provide a ‘beacon of hope’ for our family, friends, coworkers and neighbors who have been touched by cancer,” continued Ferris.
