Emergency Care

Marlborough Hospital provides comprehensive, high-quality emergency services for adults and children through its Emergency Department. This modern facility is staffed around the clock by emergency medicine physicians from UMass Memorial Medical Center. A highly experienced and skilled emergency nursing staff complements the care provided by these expert physicians.

Services and resources within the Emergency Department include:

  • Seventeen examination and procedure rooms, including special rooms for cardiac, trauma, pediatric and psychiatric emergencies
  • A negative-pressure isolation room to keep hazardous infections away from patients and staff
  • A decontamination area with a separate entrance to treat patients exposed to hazardous substances
  • A state-of-the-art cardiac monitoring system to monitor heart rate, blood pressure, respiration and blood oxygen levels in the Emergency Department, as well as during transport to the hospital's Olsen Special Care Unit

The hospital's emergency services are backed by the latest diagnostic resources, including a 40-slice computed tomography (CT) scanner and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), featuring high-definition technology.

As a member of UMass Memorial Health Care, Marlborough Hospital patients have convenient access to the Duddie Massad Emergency and Trauma Center, the region's only accredited Level One Trauma Center for adults and children. Patients requiring the advanced services of a trauma center can be rapidly transferred by Life Flight air ambulance.
