Discovering and Delivering Compassionate,
Coordinated Care
At UMass Memorial Cancer Center in Worcester, MA, we believe that
high-quality cancer care must not only respond to your physical needs, but also
to your emotional and spiritual needs throughout your cancer treatment.
Palliative care is no longer considered care limited to patients for whom there
is no cure. It is most effective when integrated into all stages of cancer
care. When applied early in treatment, palliative care increases longevity in
patients with certain cancers.
Our Palliative Care Program offers
compassionate care from a team of physicians, nurses, social workers, aides and
pastoral care providers. Our team encourages the best quality of life possible
by helping you and your family:
- Understand and cope with illness
- Manage pain and symptoms
- Consider all of your care options
- Prepare for what to expect in the future
Our expert cancer specialists work with you to create a personalized care
plan, including treatment goals and rehabilitative services, such as physical and occupational therapy. We
also offer support for caregivers and assist with financial issues related to
caregiving.
Our Cancer Center is accredited by the European Society for Medical Oncology
(ESMO), which recognizes our commitment to providing excellent palliative
care as part of the cancer treatment offered to our patients. Ours is one of
only two cancer centers in the country currently holding this accreditation.
