Pediatric Immunology

Your child's immune system fights infections. If it's not working right, your child may suffer from many kinds of health problems. In those cases, a pediatric immunologist has special skills to treat your child.

If your child has primary (when the immune system is missing or does not work properly) or acquired (when diseases or medications cause problems with the immune system) immunodeficiency disorder, you can be confident in the care provided by pediatric immunology experts at UMass Memorial Children's Medical Center in Worcester. Specialists care for children with disorders such as:

  • Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (a condition that affects blood cells and cells of the immune system)
  • X-linked agammaglobulinemia (a rare genetic disorder that affects the body's ability to fight infection)
  • Severe combined immunodeficiency syndrome (a disease that causes a child to have very little or no immune system)
