Many diagnostic tests available today can tell doctors if you have gestational diabetes, also called pregnancy induced diabetes. Your doctor will decide which screening is best for you based on your medical history, week of pregnancy, diabetes risk and whether you have gestational diabetes symptoms.
All of the diabetes screening tests listed below, which involve taking a blood or urine sample to measure your blood sugar levels, are performed in your doctor's office or in a lab.
- Glucose screening test
- Glucose tolerance test
- Urine test
If you are diagnosed with diabetes during pregnancy, you'll work with your doctor, specialist or nutritionist to develop a management plan for the rest of your pregnancy.
