Many diagnostic tests available today can tell doctors if you have type 2
diabetes, also called type 2 diabetes mellitus. Your doctor will decide which
diabetes screening test is best for you based on your medical history, diabetes
risk and whether you show signs of type 2 diabetes.
All of the diabetes screening tests listed below, which involve taking a
blood sample to measure your blood sugar levels, are performed in your doctor's
office or in a lab.
- A1c test
- Random blood sugar test
- Fasting blood sugar test
- Glucose tolerance test
If you're diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, your doctor will perform an A1c
test at your regular appointments every three to six months to find out how well
your treatment is working.
