For the most critically injured and ill patients, the Duddie Massad Emergency and Trauma Center at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester offers the region's only accredited Level One Trauma Center for both children and adults. The center is staffed around the clock by a highly skilled and experienced team of trauma specialists who treat a wide range of life-threatening illnesses and injuries, including severe burns. The team includes trauma surgeons, emergency medicine physicians and medical professionals trained in orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, plastic surgery and other specialties.
This team of trauma specialists is backed by the full clinical resources of UMass Memorial Medical Center. Patients often arrive at the Trauma Center via Life Flight air ambulance, which responds to accident scenes or referring hospitals to transfer patients in critical condition to a trauma center.

The UMass Memorial Level One Trauma Center features:
- Four rooms designed to allow the team to move quickly from patient to patient, each equipped with lifesaving supports positioned from the ceiling, allowing staff more space to treat patients
