The Cochlear Implant Research Program at UMass Memorial Medical Center is dedicated to conducting research that advances knowledge about cochlear implants and results in improved services for all implant recipients. Staff members present the results of our work at national and international scientific meetings, and publish the same in peer reviewed audiology and otolaryngology journals. We continue to participate in multicenter studies (some of which are Food and Drug Administration trials), where we join with researchers at other large cochlear implant programs to gather data in order to answer specific research questions.
Current Clinical Studies
The following studies are approved by the UMass Medical School Institutional Review Board and are currently open for enrollment:
- Simultaneous bilateral implantation
- Use of objective measures in cochlear implant programming
- Combined use of a cochlear implant and hearing aid
