To witness someone hear for the first time and watch as a concerned family
member’s fear turns to joy is a moment that makes your heart feel like it, too,
is hearing. With your support and generosity, together, we can make this scene a
reality for many others by giving the gift of sound.
Cochlear Implant Program staff at UMass Memorial strives to provide
state-of-the-art hearing rehabilitation therapy to individuals with severe to
profound hearing loss. We have been able to help many deaf patients hear sound
for the first time or in some cases bring renewed hearing to adults who had lost
their hearing. To see a 12-month-old react to sound for the first time or to
watch a 72-year-old smile while listening to sound again are amazing events.
Unfortunately, health insurance rarely covers the full cost of the implant
surgery, testing and post-implant support. To be able to provide complete
medical service and support to more patients we look to our community for help.
Yours is a gift that can translate into the gift of sound and provide deaf
patients with the sheer joy of being able to hear.
Through your generosity, we can make greater strides in our ability to treat
all individuals who medically qualify for a cochlear implant. We can tear down
boundaries and open up new worlds to those who are given the ability to hear. We
urge you to listen with your heart and help us make the ability to hear a
reality for all.
