Laboratories at each UMass Memorial hospital are integral to the care of patients by providing a full range of diagnostic testing. Skilled phlebotomists are available to draw blood samples from patients in all our patient care settings.
Additionally, our main UMass Memorial Laboratories, a state-of-the-art facility in Worcester adjacent to our Medical Center University Campus, offers an extensive advanced testing service that is utilized by laboratories throughout New England. A cornerstone of this activity is the availability of numerous, technically demanding tests, which many laboratories are unable to maintain as part of their test menu.
The UMass Memorial Laboratories are staffed with 15 physicians and PhD-level professionals as well as more than 400 medical technologists and support personnel.
The UMass Memorial Laboratories also serves the testing needs for the Correctional System for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Medical Examiners Office, principle investigators for National Institutes of Health grants, and national reference and local independent laboratories. In addition, UMass Memorial Laboratories is a preferred contracted vendor for reference laboratory services for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
