Fractures and Emergency Orthopedics

UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester is home to the region’s only Level One Trauma Center for adults and children. This means that we provide you with access to the most advanced emergency care.

More than half of all patients admitted to trauma centers have orthopedic  injuries—damage to their muscles, bones, joints, tendons, ligaments. These injuries need the immediate attention of orthopedic specialists. Providing care for these patients is an integral part of our mission at the UMass Memorial Musculoskeletal Center of Excellence, and that’s why we have a team of specially trained orthopedic trauma specialists available 24/7 for patients with orthopedic injuries including:
  • Broken bones, such as the leg, hip, arm; stress fractures of the foot, wrist
  • Spinal fractures
  • Compound fractures such as crush injuries
  • Bone and joint dislocations
  • Injuries to muscles, ligaments, tendons and cartilage
To speed time to treatment, the UMass Memorial orthopedic trauma specialists are supported by the region’s most advanced diagnostic imaging technology, including Central Massachusetts’ first 64-slice computed tomography (CT) scanner, the fastest CT scanner currently available.
