Hand Therapy Center

At the Hand and Upper Extremity Center located on the UMass Memorial - Hahnemann Campus, comprehensive, specialized care is provided by a skilled, multidisciplinary team of orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians, plastic surgeons, hand therapists and other health care specialists. Patients and their families benefit from the experience and skills of this experienced team throughout the treatment and rehabilitation process. Members of the multidisciplinary team meet regularly to ensure maximum coordination of care, so that patients can recover and return to their daily activities as quickly as possible.

The Hand and Upper Extremity Center also offers patients the latest in diagnostic imaging services, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), arthrography and neurodiagnostic studies.

Specialized treatments include:

  • Arthroscopic surgery
  • Design and fabrication of splints to protect and/or rehabilitate an injured area
  • Endoscopic and minimal-incision open carpal tunnel release surgery
  • Highly specialized hand therapy
  • Joint replacement for degenerative and rheumatological problems
  • Microvascular surgery
  • Reconstruction of congenital abnormalities

With on-site access to state-of-the-art diagnostic, medical and surgical procedures, no other program in Central and Western Massachusetts matches the level of expertise and degree of specialization found at the UMass Memorial Hand and Upper Extremity Center.
