Our Cardiology Pharmacy Residency Program is a postgraduate training program
that focuses on the development of clinical skills needed to provide safe and
effective patient-centered medication therapy management (MTM). In addition, our
residents participate in advanced experiential education and lectures at the
Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Worcester Campus.
Furthermore, our residents are trained to be proficient in hospital quality and
performance improvement initiatives.
Our Medical Center is equipped with three cardiac catheterization suites that
operate 24 hours a day with an annual caseload of more than 7,000 patients. We
provide a 16-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit for surgical and medical patients
and manage more than 1,500 patients in the outpatient Anticoagulation
Clinic.
Inpatient rotations include the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, a
pharmacist-managed inpatient anticoagulation consult service, a
pharmacist-managed acute myocardial infarction (AMI) care team and heart failure
service. Ambulatory practice rotations include the Anticoagulation Clinic, Heart
Failure Clinic and Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinic.
Our residents collaborate with preceptors and cardiologists to complete and
publish one cardiovascular pharmacy project. Also, residents participate in
classroom instruction for an elective course for the Massachusetts College of
Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
