The Weight Loss Surgery Access Program at Wing Memorial Hospital in
Palmer provides a patient-focused program designed to help adults
struggling with obesity and weight-related disease. The program welcomes
inquiries from people interested in confronting health issues related
to excessive weight.
Our program delivers respectful and confidential services, and helps
patients achieve healthy and long-lasting weight loss. All patients are
evaluated by our medical director, behavioral health specialist and
dietitian. Based on their evaluations and attendance in group sessions, a
weight loss plan is created for each patient.
Surgery is generally considered for a select group of patients with a body mass index
(BMI) greater than 40, or 35 if patients have certain associated
medical conditions. A BMI of more than 40 corresponds with being about
100 pounds overweight. When presurgical appointments and group
discussion meetings are completed, the patient may then be considered
for bariatric surgery at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.
